directory caching

A feature of Novell NetWare that copies the file allocation table (FAT) and the directory entry table into the network server's memory. When file requests are made, information is retrieved from the cache rather than from the hard disk, thus speeding the retrieval process significantly. As the directory cache fills up, the least-used directory entries are eliminated from the cache.
